Over the past 17 years, I’ve spent countless hours on the web, searching for a system that’d take care of the administration for a business like ours. Alas, it was nowhere to be found.

So, after many, many hours of tinkering, hacking and refining, I wished the unicorn into existence and developed Cobbler—a phenomenal mash-up of intuitive systems that automates the thinking of your best producer and agent.

And it’s taken 17 years of developing, testing, and perfecting to make this tool look as smooth as it runs. I’m proud to say that Cobbler is now out in the wild, running as its own business—operating as the tool for talent agencies and creative studios to work (and look) their best.

The Early Days of FileMaker

Cobbler began in 2007 as a custom FileMaker app to make gorgeous quotes & invoices. But we didn't stop there...

2013–2019
Bridges to the web

Still just an internal tool, we did a complete UX overhaul and added new features, including a front-end that sent all our documents out as slick webpages.

2020
Lockdown and Rebuilding

Moving into the new WFH reality, we rebuilt everything from scratch into a native web app on Ruby on Rails. It was too good to keep to ourselves though...

For Reps

In short, Cobbler is a turnkey back-of-house solution for commission based talent agencies. It allows you to run pretty much every aspect of this kind of business without leaving the app. Cobbler generates everything from quotes to invoices to everything in-between (and after!). That said, we are currently in development of a Cobbler 'Lite' which is specifically for design studios and creative agencies who are looking for a simple quoting and invoicing system that can generate beautiful and customizable web-based paperwork that matches their brand.

Cobbler for Reps is our flagship product which was built over the course of seventeen years being used as an in-house app. It is specifically made to cater for the needs of talent agencies of various stripes, including modules to manage talent and licensing, as well as our first-in-class markup and commission friendly estimate builder.

Cobbler for Studios is currently in development and will be a simplified version of the app made for a broader user amongst design studios and creative agencies. The focus here will be on generating and delivering beautiful web-native quotes and invoices along with other features like full vendor/rolodex management. We are currently accepting a limited number of beta testers of this. Get in touch to find out more.

Cobbler for Reps was developed over the course of seventeen years and used primarily as an in-house tool exclusively by the Jacky Winter Group - an illustration and animation agency. When we started to rebuild it for white-labelling, we partnered with a local photography agency and started to update the app so it would have broader appeal to other industries.

Whether you represent Artists, Speakers, Influencers, Writers, or something that hasn't been invented yet, any commission-based agency will find an amazing array of utility within Cobbler.

While Cobbler has some amazing tools to facilitate production, it's probably not going to be well suited for complex live-action production. There's already some great tools out there that do that better than we ever could.

Similarly, Cobbler has many features which are hyper-specific to a particular niche of businesses - namely commission-based talent agencies. If you are a more traditional design studio or creative agency, you'll want to keep an eye out for our Cobbler for Studios product which will be launching soon.

The name Cobbler partially comes from the fact that so many talent agencies have been cobbling together their own set of tools to make their agency work, so we know that the idea of changing systems can seem quite daunting! All new Cobbler clients will receive 1-on-1 onboarding to get you fully set up for success, and there's unlimited support available via Slack and email. This isn't support from a random person either - you'll be working directly with the founding product team. We can also import your existing data from other systems based on CSV templates we can provide you.

The Jacky Winter Group is an illustration and animation agency founded in 2006 by Jeremy Wortsman in Melbourne, Australia. In 2007, Jeremy developed a custom app in FileMaker Pro which would generate gorgeous quotes and invoices and help automate some of their management taks. This tool was consistently updated and expanded as the agency grew. During the start of Covid lockdowns in 2020, the Jacky Winter team began to re-develop this tool into a native-web app for full remote use. During this time they decided to spin off the app, now named Cobbler, into a standalone product which could be white-labelled for other businesses.

Cobbler is now part of Immortality Projects, a standalone software development business focussed on products for the creative industries. It's other products include PencilBooth, an email newsletter service for artists, and Replier, a text-based project management app.

For Studios

There is no relief or relaxation when we are in the samsaric world; there is always some kind of struggle going on. Even when we are supposedly enjoying life, there is still struggle and all kinds of discomfort. We may try to solve that problem by going out to restaurants or the cinema, or by enjoying our friends; nonetheless, nothing really helps. That is what is called the first noble truth, the truth of suffering. Seemingly we are trapped without hope or any way out. And once we are in that situation, we are always in that situation: we are in pain all the time…the more we understand our state of being, the more we will understand why we are in pain. What we find is that the more into ourselves we are, the more we suffer, and the less into ourselves we are, the less we suffer…the reality is that we are all trapped in samsaric neurosis, everybody, without exception. It is best that you work with reality rather than with ideals. That is a good place to begin.
